WorkshopS

21 August • Strasbourg

29 August • Düsseldorf

Participants in FUTURA C always take part in a pair of workshops, attending one workshop in France and one in Germany. The two workshops complement each other thematically: one focuses on sustainability, the other on inclusion. This structure ensures that participants gain a holistic understanding of how to create cultural events that are both environmentally responsible and socially inclusive—while building strong cross-border connections with fellow professionals.

Every stop is a new city, a new vibe, a burst of collective energy by the water’s edge.

Taking cultural rights into account for greater inclusion

About the workshop

Did you know that cultural rights exist in the same way as the rights to food, housing, work or social security?

As an integral part of fundamental human rights, cultural rights are still not universally recognised, respected and/or implemented.

Yet taking them into account is essential to respecting human dignity and developing each person’s capabilities and agency. It is an ethical and democratic requirement that fosters inclusion and social cohesion.

Morning

  • Context and international legal framework of cultural rights
  • Exploring the 8 cultural rights and their implications, in theory and in practice, through active learning methods

Afternoon

  • Identifying and analysing professional situations in relation to the cultural rights framework and group case studies

After 15 years of experience in the arts and culture sector, working with both voluntary organisations and institutions in France and Canada, Cécile Haeffele established a cultural consultancy to explore how artistic initiatives can create new forms of engagement between civil society stakeholders—including artists, businesses, residents, and local authorities—and support their individual and collective development.

Since April 2020, she has been leading the TOT OU T’ART network.

About the Organisation

Founded in 2001, the Tôt ou t’art association coordinates a network of organisations working in the fields of social welfare, health, justice and culture in Alsace, with the aim of helping to make cultural and artistic activities a driving force for social inclusion and cohesion. Comprising 150 artistic and cultural practitioners, around 460 social and medico-social organisations, and nearly a dozen local authorities supporting almost 70,000 people in vulnerable situations, this Cultures & Solidarity resource centre provides tools for communication, ticketing, training and support.

Throughout the year, the association organises key events (forums, conferences, seminars) to foster mutual understanding and equip those working in social and cultural sectors.

We are all cultural beings! Tôt ou t’art supports its members in recognising people’s cultural resources to enable access to food, healthcare, employment and more. We work alongside cultural stakeholders to increase the participation of people in vulnerable situations in cultural life and to ensure that cultural organisations reflect the diversity of society.

Workshop 2/2

29 August 2026

📍Düsseldorf (Germany)

Part of the »Chance Festival«

The CHANCE Festival is a Franco-German pop and democracy festival held in Düsseldorf’s Hofgarten. With concerts, talks and workshops, and free admission, it creates an open space for encounters, cultural exchange and democratic dialogue – and brings European cooperation and social participation to life.

Everything Stays Different – Sustainability as an Opportunity for Cultural Organisations

About the workshop

Sustainability is becoming an increasingly important topic for cultural organisations, yet many teams struggle with where to begin. Between limited resources, day-to-day operations and growing expectations from funders, audiences and society, sustainable transformation can feel difficult to navigate.

This interactive workshop provides a practical introduction to sustainability in the cultural sector. Participants explore how sustainability can be embedded into organisational structures, programmes and decision-making processes without losing sight of their artistic and social missions.

Through a combination of input, reflection and collaborative exercises, participants learn how to identify key stakeholders, formulate shared goals, assess their current situation and develop realistic measures for change. The workshop focuses on creating momentum and helping organisations find their own path toward more sustainable and inclusive practices.

Participants leave with concrete tools, fresh perspectives and actionable ideas they can apply directly within their own organisations and projects.

Workshop instructors:

Jochen Leuf is a cultural manager, musician and sustainability practitioner with more than twenty years of experience in developing cultural projects and organisations.

As co-founder and artistic director of Kulturkarawane, he has created numerous participatory cultural formats that transform public spaces into places of encounter, creativity and dialogue. His work combines artistic vision with strategic management and a strong commitment to accessibility, inclusion and sustainability.

Before focusing on cultural management, Jochen worked internationally as a certified travel guide and cultural mediator, designing and leading journeys that connected people with local cultures and communities. These experiences continue to shape his approach today: meaningful cultural work starts with listening, participation and creating spaces where diverse perspectives can meet.

As a certified Transformation Manager for Sustainable Culture (IHK), Jochen supports organisations in integrating ecological, social and economic sustainability into their everyday practice. His workshops combine practical methods with real-world experience from the cultural sector, helping participants turn ambitious goals into achievable actions.

About the Organisation

Kulturkarawane is a non-profit cultural organisation based in Trier, Germany. Since 2014, it has been developing cultural projects that bring people together and create accessible spaces for participation in public life.

Working under the principle that culture is a human right, Kulturkarawane designs and delivers music-based cultural programmes, placemaking initiatives and community-driven events that connect diverse audiences and strengthen social cohesion. The organisation collaborates with municipalities, cultural institutions, artists and civil society organisations to activate public spaces and make culture visible beyond traditional venues.

Sustainability, inclusion and participation are central to its work. Through local, national and European projects, Kulturkarawane explores how cultural organisations can contribute to more resilient, democratic and connected communities while ensuring that cultural experiences remain accessible to everyone.

Solidarity Contribution

To make FUTURA C accessible while supporting the long-term sustainability of the project, we work with a solidarity-based participation model.

You can choose the contribution level that best matches your financial situation (starting from 20€). All selected amounts help support the organisation of the workshops, accessibility measures, and sustainable travel within the project.
